The Makery: Handmade Wardrobe Basics
Join us this season and continue building your sewing skills! This class is perfect for beginner sewists who are comfortable using a sewing machine and are ready to start making garments.
Students will choose a beginner-friendly or intermediate sewing pattern and work through the project together over two weeks. Guidance will be provided throughout the process, with an emphasis on building confidence and foundational garment-making skills.
Dates: Thursday 11th & 18th June 2026
Time: 5:30pm-8:30pm (3hrs)
Class Size: 4 Students (min 3 students)

In this class, students will learn how to:
- Take and understand body measurements
- Read, cut, and pin a sewing pattern
- Understand grainline and fabric layout
- Practice basic garment construction
- Learn introductory seam-finishing techniques
- Hem garments neatly and professionally
Class Details
- Total instructional time: 6 hours
- Duration: 2 weeks
What’s Included:
- One Janome sewing machine per participant
- Two sergers available for shared use (serger thread provided)
- Irons and a variety of ironing tools
- Scissors, chalk, pins, and other essential sewing tools
What to Bring
Please bring — or plan to purchase — any materials needed for your project, including:
- A beginner or intermediate sewing pattern
- Coordinating fabric
- Matching thread suitable for your fabric (example: cotton fabric = cotton thread)
- Any notions required by the pattern, such as zippers, buttons, elastic, or interfacing
Students are welcome to:
- Bring fabric and supplies from home
- Source materials elsewhere
- Purchase supplies from the shop before class
Students purchasing supplies through The Makery will receive 10% off class materials.
Fabric Tip
Most fabrics will shrink when washed. We recommend purchasing your fabric ahead of time and pre-washing, drying, and ironing it before class to ensure the best results.

Cancellation Policy
All class fees are non-refundable. Cancellations or schedule changes must be made at least 72 hours in advance to receive store credit. Late cancellations and no-shows will forfeit the class fee. Please read our cancellation policy for full details.
Age Policy
Our workshops are designed for participants aged 16 and over to ensure the best possible learning experience.
Participants aged 16–17 must:
- Be accompanied by an adult aged 18+ who is also registered in the class
- Have a signed waiver completed before class begins
